We are four local business owners who come from across the Solent region and due to the very nature of SBGN when you get involved with us you are not just working with the four of us, you are working with our trusted partners. Connected to all other businesses that are part of all of our networks, linked up with private and public sector organisations whose role it is to support the local economic and business community. We are all as passionate about our businesses as you are about yours.

David Vane
David Vane
David has been involved with online marketing and the web since 1995.  His skills include all aspects of web design, promotion and reporting and more recently Social Media Marketing - Twitter, Facebook, blogs, Linkedin, etc

He has designed and presented many workshops to help people use all aspects of computing and technology effectively and has spent a lot of time supporting and training people to use Outlook, MS Office, web, smart phones, iphones, ipads Google apps, etc

A passionate advocate of collaboration and innovative ways of working he is keen to encourage the idea of remote workers - Virtual Assistants and Virtual Office helping people to work from home effectively. He is an active Member of FSB Southampton and Business Solent Fast Track project.

Specialties - Online promotion and marketing - development of Internet tools for business - intranets, extranets, recently migration to Google Apps. SEO, Social Media Tools - Twitter, Facebook. Lou is an experienced marketer having 30 years experience in fmcg marketing and global consultancy including global brands, Nestlé, Unilever and Leo Burnett.

She has extensive, commercial experience in developing and implementing Marketing and Brand strategies across a wide range of markets and across continents. 4 years as an accredited Business Advisor for Business link advising over 200 start ups and SME’s.

A commercially driven business outlook that is always market and brand driven, Lou has enthusiasm, commitment, dedication and an incredible energy that shines through everything she undertakes.

Simon Whitbread

Simon is an experienced business consultant, with a wealth of knowledge in variety of business areas. Having originally trained as a teacher and worked for several youth charities; he then retrained and spent the ten years working for the UK’s largest insurance company, coaching and supporting leaders and managers at all levels. Which proves that you don’t have to stay doing the same career forever. Since leaving this role Simon has run his own business helping organisations and individuals in both the private and public sector launch, develop and grow to meet the ever changing needs of the UK market place.

He has a real passion about the role of small businesses in both the local and national economy and the positive impact they can have on the local community. It is because of this that he is devoted to helping individuals and small businesses not only reach their potential but to grow beyond it.

Simon has trained in the coaching techniques of the OCM. As well as this Simon is also a Prince2 Practitioner and has qualified as a Greenbelt in 6Sigma Process Excellence.

Tim Lyons

Qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse (now PWC) in 1985, Tim has also worked for KPMG in Germany for three years. As a partner in a Bournemouth practice for nine years Tim as specialised in providing business growth services the local SME market. Since then Tim ran his own practice in Southampton until May 2011 further developing business growth, strategic planning and tax mitigation services.

Tim understands that the accounting function of any business is not there simply to provide financial history. Rather, if used correctly, it will give an insight into what is working well and what isn’t thereby helping business owners with their strategic decision making and growth planning.
